Free File Sharing
|
In the wake of Napster's demise, several FREE file-sharing sites have cropped up. I will add that, unlike Napster, all of these file-sharing systems are decentralized. While they won't always work
as well as Napster did, the fact that they are decentralized means that they can't be shut down:

- BearShare - a free Windows file sharing program built on the Gnutella protocol. BearShare uses the FreePeers Agent, a communications module which abstracts the handling and maintenance of data without the use of a centralized server.

- WinMx - allows you to simultaneously connect through the decentralized WinMX Peer Networking Protocol AND to many networks based on the OpenNap and Napster protocols. WinMX also supports any file type, allowing you access to a diverse assortment of shared video and picture files as well as the usual MP3 audio files.

- AudioGalaxy - allows you to use the Satellite music-sharing program, communicate with other users, and publish lists and descriptions of music you like.

- R.I.P. Napster - I have to mention that many of us are sad to see the old Napster go. Napster's centralized file-sharing system matched by no other. Its server capacity was amazing. Unfortunately, Napster was too good to last. But it was great while it lasted.

Free Voicemail

- Excite Voicemail - Excite also offers free toll-free voicemail. You must first register for their email service. Click the Free Voicemail/Email link once you get there.

- Buzme - Although the free part is just a free trial for one week, I feel compelled to include Buzme because it blows away all the other voicemail and Internet caller ID services that I have tried.

- DriversGuide.com - a massive database of drivers and resources that is by far the largest and most comprehensive on the Web.
